The Limerick S.P.C.A. is a registered charity founded in 1882, over 125 years ago, dealing with the prevention of cruelty to all animals in Limerick City and County and the surrounding counties of Clare & Tipperary. The Limerick S.P.C.A. works with a small group of dedicated volunteers and two part-time employees. Our Part-time Inspector and jeep are constantly on the road dealing with 20-25 cruelty cases every week. Most of our cruelty investigative involved farm animals – cattle, horses, sheep, goats, donkeys etc. Even though we are still governed by the 1911 Cruelty to Animals Act, we have more cruelty convictions in Limerick than any other area of the country, and this success rate is largely due to the great co-operation we receive from the Garda and Vets. The Limerick S.P.C.A. run a very successful spaying and neutering scheme for members of the public, and actively encourage the spaying of cats and dogs at a early stage to prevent unwanted litters of puppies and kittens. The Limerick S.P.C.A. believes in the education of young people in responsible pet ownership and the humane treatment of all animals. To further this aim we give talks regularly in primary and secondary schools throughout the area. We are encouraged by the ever increasing demand for these talks by both Students and Teachers alike. ************************************* WHY NOT ORGANIZE A FUND RAISING EVENT IN YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD, SCHOOL OR COMMUNITY TO HELP THE ANIMALS IN NEED. ************************ coffee mornings
